Eszter Neuberger
A young scholar and a journalist. Holds BA in Media an Communication Studies with Journalism specialization, currently researching the public discourse on Holocaust in post-WWII Hungary for her master degree in Media Research at Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest. From this September Eszter will focus on Nationalism Studies at Central European University. Besides her academic activities Eszter is a permanent guest author of hvg.hu (the online edition of HVG weekly) writing mostly about civil society, the social welfare system and covering topics related to unprivileged groups of society. She is a VSS alumna from 2012.
Ludĕk Niedermayer
Luděk Niedermayer was born on 13 March 1966 in Brno, Czech Republic. In 1989 he graduated in Theoretical Cybernetics, Mathematical Informatics and Systems Theory at the Faculty of Science at the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Brno (now Masaryk University) and holds RNDr. degree.
In 1991 he joined the Czech National Bank where he worked for 17 years in area of financial markets and monetary policy. He served twice at the Bank Board (8 years in a position of Vice-governor). From 2008 to 2014 he was a Director of Consulting Department in Deloitte.
During his work he cooperated with IMF, IBRD or BIS on several projects and working groups, contributed to publications on reserve management, risk management and monetary policy. He publishes regularly economics articles in press and cooperates with the non-profit sector. He is a member of Advisory board of Central banking publications and leads training programs for central bankers.
In 2014 he was elected as a Member of European Parliament where he acts as a full member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and a substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE).
Luděk Niedermayer lives near Prague, is married and has three children.
Joanna Pawluśkiewicz
Writer, scriptwriter, film producer, awarded with a scholarship of Minister of Culture and Art, student of Second City in Chicago. Author of two books: "Telenovela" and "Cleaning Lady". The last one was inspired by a three years lasting stay of Pawluśkiewicz in USA, where she was working and travelling. Co-founder of the Moma Film Foundation. Runs a project "New Urban Legends" - educational film/literature project for children and adults. The "New Urban Legends" project won a prize in "Polish Short Films" in New Horizons Festival. Now, she writes for HBO Europe and cooperates with Chlodna 25 Comedy Club in Warsaw.
Wojciech Przybylski
Wojciech Przybylski leads the largest strategic foresight program on European policies in Central Europe. He is the editor of Visegrad Insight at the Res Publica Foundation in Warsaw. Previously, he served as the editor-in-chief of Res Publica Nowa and later of EUROZINE, a pan-European network of cultural magazines. He is a guest lecturer for the Foreign Service Institute for the U.S. Government, the Central European University Democracy Institute, and the Pázmány Catholic University in Budapest. He is a graduate of MISH at the University of Warsaw, a Europe’s Future Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna, and a member of the advisory board for LSE IDEAS Ratiu Forum, the European Forum for New Ideas, and the Schmidt Futures International Strategy Forum. Lászlό Rajk
Architect and designer, a former Hungarian dissident. A Doctor of Liberal Arts from Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Faculty of Architecture. In 1998, he was one of the founders of the Network of Free Initiatives and the Liberal Party, the Alliance of Free Democrats. Between 1990–1996 he has a Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Committee on Culture and Member of the Parliament. Since 1992 he has worked as a Professor of Film Architecture at the Hungarian Film Academy in Budapest. From 1995–98 he was an advisor to the Hungarian National UNESCO Committee (World Heritage). In 2003, he became Legal Cultural Advisor to the European Union. A winner of numerous awards, including the Imre Prize (for the design of the reburying of the Martyrs of 1956), and in 2005, Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit and the Solidarity Award (Poland). Since 2014 giving lectures and master classes at the Center for Human Values at Princeton University, at the Library of Congress in Washington and the Film Factory Sarajevo University. Author of books, articles, papers and reviews eg.: “Mass Gymnastic Performances under Communism: The Case of Czechoslovak Spartakiads”, “Prague Perspectives III. Jan Slavík (1885–1978): A Czech Historian of Revolutions” (with Lukáš Babka). Since 2010 member of the editorial board of Journal Dějiny, teorie, kritika.
Hebba Sherif
PhD in 1996 from the Cairo University in Comparative Literature. She worked as Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts at the Cairo University from 1997 until 2002. From 2004 – 2005 she was chosen as member of the jury of Litrix - German Literature Online for selecting German books for Arabic Translation. Since 2010 member of the board of the National Centre for Translation in Egypt. She has been working since 2002 as Head of Pro Helvetia Cairo (Swiss Arts Council), where she was responsible for designing concepts and strategies for exchange artistic works between Swiss and Arab culture. She wrote several articles in German and Arabic about cultural interaction and comparative literature. She has also done translations from German into Arabic. She has participated since 2011 in some independent cultural initiatives, such as independent culture coalition, the national group for cultural policies. Since 2011, she has been interested in the reform of the cultural sector in Egypt and has participated in several events addressing this topic. Now, her focus is on organizing projects related to the own cultural heritage in its relation to the contemporary artistic expressions.
Joanna Skoczek
Current director of Public and Cultural Diplomacy Department in Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 2008-2012 director of the EU Presidency Coordination Department, MFA. Since 2005, she had been working in the Office of the Committee for European Integration, among others, dealing with decision making process in the UE as a deputy director of the Integration Policy Department. Previously (2002–2005), she was responsible for coordination of the Ministry of Justice participation in the EU legislative process in the area of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters, monitoring the tasks resulting from the membership, coordinating relations with the Parliament as to the European matters. She graduated from Faculty of Law (Jagiellonian University) and National School of Public Administration in Warsaw. She has been always active in field of youth education and initiatives, e.g. she is co-founder of Cracow Youth City Council.
